Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Atkins' campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Abortion: I am and have always been pro life and against abortion . As a christian , I make no judgement of a woman that would choose this procedure . I would only pray for her . However as a lawmaker , I would vote to repeal Roe V . Wade as long as the new law did not affect this right as a woman if she had medical issues .
  • Free Trade/Jobs: If free trade equals wiping out the middle working class , depleting state and local tax basis and affecting millions of smart hard working families to live near the poverty rate , then I am against it . The NAFTA and WTO so called ' free trade ' deals since 1994 have caused devastation to this country and hard working families and the poor.
  • Immigration: In the last several years 4o million legal non citizen and illegal immigrants have flooded across our southern border . Republican and democrat politicians/lawyers controlled by lobby have encouraged this illegal assault on American working men and women . Their objective is to drive down labor cost . This coupled with bad trade deals have done just that . Average income is less now than in 1975.
  • Gun Rights: As we all know the second amendment gives us the freedom to own guns so that we can protect ourselves and our families . If we lose our second amendment rights than we will certainly lose our first amendment rights which allow us religious freedom , freedom of speech , a free press and the right to assemble . We would essentially lose all the rights afforded us by the constitution.
