Kimberly Beltran was born in Miami, Florida. She earned a high school diploma from Coral Gables Senior High School, a bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina, Asheville in 1994, and a graduate degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2003. Her career experience includes working as a supervisor.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

As a lifetime Miami native, wife, mom, and proud graduate of the MDCPS system, I am on a mission to serve our community and Make Education Great Again! In addition to over 20 years of administration experience in the legal field, my educational background includes a B.S. in Business Administration and a Master's Degree in International Business, which equips me to meet the challenges preventing our schools from maintaining a competitive edge with private and charter schools. Most importantly, though, my 19+ years as a mom provide me with the exclusive perspective and experience that cannot be obtained from a book or a classroom environment. To address the needs of the stakeholders in our community – the parents, I want to eliminate divisive political agendas and restore standards of academic excellence throughout the public school system that my family received and benefit from. The opportunity to excel should extend beyond magnet, I.B., or public charter school students. It is what all parents want and all children deserve!

• Eliminate divisive rhetoric and themes that detract from the public-school system's primary objective of providing exceptional educational services to the children of our county.
• Enhance the safety and security of buildings for students, faculty, and staff.
• Reduce wasteful spending and invest more resources in our students and teachers.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

* Elevating educational standards among all students.

• Eliminating red tape that hinders effective and efficient public-private partnerships.
  
• Eliminate wasteful spending such as the quarter billion dollar electric school bus scam and responsibly invest in projects and programs that directly benefit students and teachers.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

* A deep understanding, respect, and commitment to adhere to the Constitution of the United States.

Willingness to listen to opposing views with respect and when applicable, agree to disagree.

Never forget that we are a government for the people by the people.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

* Responsibly manage public funds to best serve the parents and students of the school district.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. I was 15 years old and witnessed the tragedy during English class in 10th grade.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Cashier at Fuddrucker's in Coconut Grove for the summer of 1987.

If you could be any fictional character, who would you want to be?

I would not want to be a fictional character.

What is something that has been a struggle in your life?

My back.

What is the primary job of a school board member in your view?

Act as a fiduciary of public tax dollars to represent the needs and interests of the parents.

Who are your constituents?

Parents and tax payers of District 9.

How would you support the diverse needs of your district’s students, faculty, staff, and community?

Focus on projects and initiative that satisfy the needs of each individual school.

How will you build relationships with members of the broader community? Which groups, organizations, stakeholders will you specifically target?

One of the biggest issues facing the schools in District 9 is the deferred maintenance and repairs of school buildings, fields, and properties. During my campaign, I have the opportunity to meet with several constituents who are also general contractors. Their feedback has been consistent with the primary complaint being not receiving payment in a timely manner for work completed. I have been told that it takes sometimes up to 1 year to get paid! Other constituents openly admit that they refuse to bid for work because of the infinite red-tape and delay in payment. This results in fewer and less competitive bids. Leaky classroom ceilings, dilapidated athletic fields, and broken door locks, are totally unacceptable! I am committed to reducing red-tape and increasing the timeliness of payment to all vendors for any services provided (and completed to satisfaction) to serve our students, teachers, and parents.

In what areas would you like to expand curriculum? For example, do you see a need for advanced technical training or apprenticeships? What sort of innovative programming would you advance if given the opportunity?

Life skills, trade skills, and advanced technical training are definitely needed. I would like to bring back home economics, wood shop, and drafting. Increase education in civics and less in social justice issues.

What strategies or plans would you advance to ensure the schools are properly funded?

Eliminate spending on wasteful projects such as the quarter billion dollar electric school bus scam, and reallocate the funds to meet the demand for actual improvement of school building.

Describe your ideal learning environment for students.

Clean, safe, focused, and engaging. Clear teacher/student boundaries and increased opportunities for parental involvement.

How do you feel like your school district handled the coronavirus pandemic? What, if anything, would you do differently in the future?

No closures, no mask, or vaccine mandates.

During the August 2021 board meeting, our school board voted to defy Governor DeSantis' order against mask mandates and forced students, teachers, visitors, and volunteers to wear masks. The current school board member, in complete disregard for individual freedom and religious liberty proposed "an amendment to remove the possibility of exemptions from mask-wearing for religious reasons."

What will you do to build a relationship with parents in the district?

Maintain an open-door policy to address any issues or concerns they may have regarding their child's education.

What are your preferred strategies for faculty, staff, and administration recruitment?

Competitive salaries and benefits packages.

What are your views on financial transparency and government accountability?

Full transparency and government accountability of all public funds.
