Lake & Plain Township Police Levy Replacements, 2 (November 2011)

Two Lake & Plain Township Police Levy Replacement measures were on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the townships of Lake and Plain which are in Stark County.

Both measures were approved

The Lake measure sought to replace the current police levy which one set at a rate of 4.5 mills for a continuing period of time in order to help pay for police protection services in the unincorporated areas of the township.

  • YES 5,577 (52.3%)Approveda
  • NO 5,087 (47.7%)

The Plain measure sought to replace the current police levy with one set at a rate of 2.25 mills for a period of five years in order to help pay for police protection services in the township.[1]

  • YES 7,899 (62.57%)Approveda
  • NO 4,726 (37.43%)[2]

The ballot language for the Lake Township measure was in error, citing that the tax would be $.45 per $1,000 but in actuality it is per $100 assessed property value. The Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the measure is not valid but Township officials have appealed the decision.[3]
