Two seats on the Lee's Summit R-7 Schools Board of Education were up for general election on April 7, 2015.
The seats of incumbents Ron Baker and Patti Buie were up for election.[1] Newcomers Julie Doane, William Lindsey and Adam Rutherford competed for the two seats. Neither Baker nor Buie filed to run for re-election. Doane and Rutherford defeated Lindsey to win the election.

Lee's Summit R-7 Schools is located in northwest Missouri in Jackson County. The county seats are Independence and Kansas City. This county is home to 679,996 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Lee's Summit R-7 Schools was the seventh-largest school district in Missouri and served 17,825 students.[3]
Demographics
Jackson County outperformed the rest of Missouri in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 27.6 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent for Missouri as a whole. The median household income in Jackson County was $47,015, compared to $47,380 for the state of Missouri. The poverty rate was 17.4 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for the entire state.[2]

Voter and candidate information
The Lee's Summit Board of Education consists of seven members elected at-large to three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 7, 2015. Two seats were up for election in 2015.[1]
School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period, which began on December 16, 2014, and ended on January 20, 2015. To vote in the 2015 general election, residents had to register by March 11, 2015. The absentee voting deadline was on April 1, 2015.[5]

Julie Doane and Adam Rutherford received endorsements from the local affiliate of the Missouri National Education Association and The Kansas City Star.[6][7]

“ | Shall the Reorganized School District No. 7 of Jackson County, Missouri board of education borrow money in the amount of $40,000,000 for the purpose of acquiring land, constructing, furnishing and equipping a new building initially to be used for Summit Technology Academy and the Missouri Innovation Campus, completing safety enhancements and deferred maintenance, and constructing school facilities, building additions to and repairing, remodeling, renovating and improving existing district facilities and furnishing and equipping the same and issue bonds for the payment thereof resulting in no increase to the debt service levy? If this proposition is approved, the debt service levy of the school district is estimated to remain unchanged at $1.0700 per one hundred dollars assessed valuation of real and personal property.[13] | ” |
