Longtime District Judge John P. Davis dies

Nevada: Judge John P. Davis (Nevada), of the Nevada Fifth Judicial District Court, died on January 26, 2011 at the age of 76. He had battled cancer for several years.
Davis was first elected to the Fifth District Court in 1990. Nevada Chief Justice Michael Douglas stated, "His hard work and thoughtfulness will be missed." Nye County Commissioner Joni Eastley explained, "If there was only one way that I could describe Judge Davis, it's that he was a lover of the truth." Gov. Sandoval ordered all state flags to fly half staff for a day in remembrance of the judge.
The Nevada Commission on Judicial Selection will choose three nominees to send to the Governor, who will appoint Judge Davis's replacement.[1]
