Loontjer v. Robinson
Loontjer v. Robinson is a lawsuit filed by Pat Loontjer against Greg Robinson in Nebraska on October 24, 2003. It was ultimately decided by the Nebraska Supreme Court.
Greg Robinson, representing the Committee for Local Option Gambling, had filed an initiative to allow keno/slot machines in Nebraska by local option. The group had collected signatures and subsequently the measure had been placed on the ballot.
According to a law passed in Nebraska in 1998, sponsors of an initiative are required to file a sworn (notarized) statement listing their names and street addresses when they file wording for an initiative. Plaintiff Loontjer sought to have the initiative struck from the ballot on the grounds that the initiative sponsors had failed to file that wording, and also on the grounds that the initiative violated the state's new single-subject rule. She succeeded in her goals.
