Lorraine Akiba is a former member of the Hawaii Public Utilities Commission, the state body charged with regulating the state's utility companies. Gov. Neil Abercrombie (D) appointed Akiba. She took office on June 30, 2012.[1] Akiba served until June 30, 2018.[2]

When she served on the public utilities commission, Akiba was an attorney and competitive ballroom dancer. She worked with Cades Schutte Fleming & Wright for 13 years, first as an associate attorney and then partner. She served as director of the Hawai'i Department of Labor and Industrial Relations from 1995 to 2000, and was chair of the Hawaii Democratic Party for three terms. In 2000, she joined McCorriston Miller Mukai MacKinnon LLP as a partner.[3]
