Louisiana: The Louisiana Supreme Court has overturned a ruling by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and has disqualified candidate Ernal Broussard from seeking office in the Abbeville City Council. Broussard's validity as a candidate was challenged on the grounds that he had pleaded guilty in 2005 to a felony charge of aiding and abetting an illegal gambling operation. Louisiana state law prevent any convicted felon from seeking public office until at least 15 years after his sentence has been completed.[1]
