Maryland Eligibility for Public Office, Amendment 1 (1948)

The Maryland Eligibility for Public Office Amendment, also known as Amendment 1, was on the November 2, 1948 ballot in Maryland as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment, where it was approved. The measure prohibited members of organizations that advocate for the overthrow of the United States or Maryland governments through force from being eligible to hold any public office.[1][2]
