In November of 1985, at the age of 19, one week after graduating from vocational college, I moved from a small farm in Iowa to Snellville, GA. Arriving in an old Chevy Vega with only $20 in my pocket, I was welcomed with southern hospitality and dishes including black eyed peas and okra. Shortly after, I enrolled in adult education classes at Emory University on how to start a business. This class propelled me to create my 10-year vision to become self-employed and opened my eyes to the possibilities surrounding me.
It’s been 37 years since that move from Iowa. During that time, I have met and married my sweetheart Suzanne, we have raised two beautiful daughters, grown a business from a single customer, and continue to be deeply involved in our local business and church communities.- Support our Public Safety Personnel - The geographic area and our population call for double the amount of Police, Firefighters, and other public safety personnel. We need leaders who will put an emphasis on correcting these numbers, and must always be at the top of mind in relation to all other decisions.
- Fiscal Responsibility - In just the last two years, our commissioners have raised our property taxes by 25%. We have out-of-control spending and we need leadership who has a foundational belief on being financially responsible.
- Balanced Leadership - Of the 5 Commissioner positions, all are held by Democrats. Until the day comes when the Commissioner seats are made non-partisan, which is what I believe they should be, a representative at the table articulating opposing values will allow for robust debates. The outcome is bound to be more inclusive to everyone in our vast county. I believe government works best when all voices are heard.
