Mitch Stewart is founding partner of 270 Strategies, a progressive digital strategy firm. Stewart co-founded the firm with Jeremy Bird in 2013. Before 270 Strategies, Stewart was battleground states director for the 2012 Obama/Biden re-election campaign for President and Vice President. According to The Guardian, in this role Stewart created "....a historic ground operation that will provide the model for political campaigns in America and around the world for years to come."[1]
Career
Stewart served as a research assistant and staff assistant in former U.S. Sen. Tim Johnson's (D) office in Sioux Falls, S.D.[2] He later worked on Johnson's 2002 re-election campaign staff. In 2002, Stewart was regional field director for former U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu's (D) runoff election in Louisiana. In 2003, Stewart was regional field director in eastern Iowa for John Edwards' (D) campaign for President. Stewart was field director in South Dakota for former Democratic Senate leader Tom Daschle's re-election campaign in 2004. Stewart served as Democratic coordinated campaign director in Minnesota for the 2006 election cycle.[3]
Barack Obama
Stewart was Iowa state caucus director for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign.[4] He later served on Obama's 2008 primary campaign staff in Nevada and Minnesota before Stewart was named state director in both Texas and Indiana during the primary election campaign.[5][3] Stewart was named state director for Virginia in the general election. Obama became the first Democratic candidate for President to win Virginia since 1964.[5][4]
On January 23, 2009, Stewart was named director of Organizing for America, which aimed "...to continue the grassroots advocacy that President Obama began in his presidential campaign." The group worked "... within the Democratic National Committee to advance the Obama agenda."[6] Stewart worked at Organizing for America until April 2011, when he was named battleground states director for the Obama/Biden 2012 re-election campaign.[7]

As director of battleground states, Stewart engineered a strategy that garnered victory in nine of ten battleground states.[5] After the 2012 election, Stewart co-founded 270 Strategies, a progressive digital strategy firm with Jeremy Bird. Among the firm's first clients was Ready for Hillary, a Super PAC which convinced Hillary Clinton to run for President in 2016.[8][9]
President Obama named Stewart as part of "...the best campaign team and volunteers in the history of politics. The best. The best ever."[1] Stewart was named to Campaign and Elections magazine's "Top 500 Influencers" list in 2013.[10] He "...has appeared on network and cable news programs, including "CBS This Morning," CNN, "Today" on NBC, ABC News and MSNBC."[4]
