Monroe Gray Jr.
Monroe Gray Jr. (Democratic Party) was a member of the Indianapolis City Council, representing District 8. Gray assumed office in 1992. Gray left office on January 1, 2024.
Gray (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Indianapolis City Council to represent District 2. Gray lost in the Democratic primary on May 2, 2023.
Gray represented Indianapolis City Council District 8 from 1992 until 2024.
Biography
Gray was a division chief of the Indianapolis Fire Department. His experience in the community includes affiliations with the following groups: Flanner House Board, United Northwest Area Board, Purdue Cooperative Extension Board, 100 Black Men, Versatile Eleven Club, AIA Board, Tillman H. Harpole Post #249 and the Senator Glenn Howard Junior Golf Tournament.[1]

2015
The city of Indianapolis, Indiana, held elections for mayor and city council on November 3, 2015. A partisan primary election took place on May 5, 2015. The filing deadline for major party candidates who wished to run in this election was February 6, 2015. The filing deadline for independent or minor party candidates was July 15, 2015.[2] Twenty-five city council seats were up for election. Indianapolis's four at-large seats were not up for election, because those seats were scheduled to expire at the end of 2015.[3]
In District 8, incumbent Monroe Gray, Jr. (D) defeated Patrick Midla (R) in the general election. Midla filed to run after the primary.[4]
