NJ lawmaker proposes constitutional amendment to implement judicial retention

TRENTON, New Jersey: State Representative Mike Carroll is proposing an amendment to the New Jersey Constitution that would implement retention for judges in the Garden State[1].
The proposal would call for mandatory retention for Justices of the New Jersey Supreme Court every seven years after a Justice's term expires. Also, the proposed amendment would eliminate lifetime tenure for Justices. The retention proposal also applies to Judges of the New Jersey Superior Court. A simple-majority vote is needed in order to retain any Judge or Justice[1].
The proposed amendment has yet to be heard in committee[2].
