New chief justice sworn in

Rhode Island: Justice Paul Suttell was sworn in as the chief justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court on July 16, 2009. Suttell is filling the post left open by the retirement of Frank Williams at the end of 2008, and is taking the reins from interim acting Chief Justice Maureen McKenna Goldberg.
In 2003, Republican Governor Donald Carcieri appointed Suttell to the Supreme Court,[1] and in 2009, Carcieri nominated Suttell for the post of chief justice. Suttell was approved as chief justice by the Senate 37 - 0.[2][3]
