|- Real Government Accountability - I will stand up against corruption, pay-to-play politics, and the wasteful spending that increases the annual budget leading to fewer services received by New York residents. I will fulfill my oath of office and use my authority to hold public officials accountable regardless of the political party.
- Exposing Major Corruption & Waste - I will implement a bold approach to investigating fraud, waste, and abuse. To save New York from fiscal ruin, I will use the auditing power of the state comptroller's office to root out incompetence and corruption, regardless of the political party, and I will work diligently to ensure New York residents are not overtaxed.
- Professionalizing Pension Management - The comptroller has a fiduciary duty to allocate state pension assets ethically and prudently to maximize investment returns for pension holders. I believe that political ideology should not influence pension plan management. It is irresponsible to use pension assets as a political tool to fund pet projects or promote social agendas.
New York State is potentially on the hook for more than $200 billion in unfunded pension and other retiree benefits. The state government has largely overlooked this risk and seems inclined to defer the problem indefinitely. As State Comptroller, I will provide greater transparency about our state's financial obligations and work diligently to address any expected shortfall.
Increased Budgetary Oversight
I believe that the Comptroller should take a proactive role in the state budget process to ensure good stewardship of the taxpayers' hard-earned money. As State Comptroller, I will provide increased oversight at every stage of the process. I will also seek to expose harmful policies and wasteful spending before any budget is passed. The Comptroller must be proactive in overseeing the annual budgetary process that is often delayed and increasingly leads to out-of-control spending.

Mr. Rodriguez was a Naval ROTC Midshipman at Northwestern University for two years, where he studied political science and international relations.
Mr. Rodriguez was born in Queens, New York to Puerto Rican parents. He was raised by a single mother, and lived several years in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and then in Atlanta, Georgia. A cancer survivor, he currently resides in Brooklyn, New York with his wife of 16 years and two of his three daughters.- Protecting city pensions from insolvency
- Governmental reform, efficiency and transparency
- Advancing and expanding citywide commerce and jobs
Feckless bureaucrats and many of the city’s elected leaders have simply larded on more spending, more taxes, more fees — “whatever it takes” — to maintain a governmental structure and operation that has not been critically examined or seriously overhauled in anyone’s living memory.
A government that purports to serve the people has morphed into a government that assumes the people serve it. I aim to put an end to that in my first term.
In my view and experience, New York City offers opportunity for all, so long as they are willing to work hard, play by the rules, and respect their neighbors. I want everyone in this city to fulfill the ultimate limit of their personal potential, and will do anything I can to ensure that they do. I’ll help do that by keeping government off your back, and limiting the costs and time required to maintain our city government. We will do this by:
- Overhauling City Agency Management
- Ensuring Integrity of New York City Public Pensions
- Adopting Performance-Based Budgeting
- Ensuring Accountability and Transparency in City Budgets
- Adopting Zero Base Budgeting
