Portsmouth City Income Tax Implementation (November 2011)
A Portsmouth City Income Tax Implementation measure was on the November 8, 2011 ballot in the city of Portsmouth which is in Scioto County.
This measure was approved'
- YES 2,325 (50.35%)
- NO 2,293 (49.65%)[1]
This measure sought to implement an income tax set at a rate of 6/10 of 1 percent for a continuing period of time in order to pay for police and fire salaries in the city.[2] This measure was also on the May ballot, it failed by just three votes. Fire chief in the city noted that revenues are at a low and without additional income more stations may need to be closed.[3]

The question on the ballot:
Shall Section 47 of the Charter be amended by enactment of a supplemental section to be known as Section 47-f to levy annually, beginning January 1, 2012, an income tax in an additional amount of six-tenths (6/10) of one percent (1%), notwithstanding any provision in Section 47-a prohibiting said tax, to provide funds for the operations of the Police and Fire forces of the City of Portsmouth and for no other purpose whatsoever?[4] |
