Priscilla Rakestraw was the Republican Party national committeewoman for Delaware from 1976 to 2012. In addition to her political activity, she works as the development director for The Ministry of Caring, Inc., a charity in Wilmington, Del.
Career
Priscilla Rakestraw attended Goldey Beacom College in Delaware. From 1986 to 1992, Rakestraw worked as a personnel supervisor for the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, Del. The experimental station was established in 1903 as one of the first industrial research laboratories in the world where things like Neoprene, Nylon and Kevlar were developed.[1][2]
In 1993, Rakestraw was elected Register in Chancery for the Delaware Court of Chancery, which handles cases for many corporations with headquarters in Delaware. In her position, she worked as a clerk for the court and supported its operations while meeting with the public, attorneys and other court officials.[1][3]
Rakestraw was hired as development director of Wilmington University in 1997. She recruited students and advertised for the university until 2001. She became development director for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, Inc. (DBCC) in March 2004. The DBCC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that aims to "raise awareness of breast health issues in Delaware through outreach, education and support to help facilitate early detection and treatment of breast cancer." Rakestraw worked as development director for DBCC until November 2012.[1][4]
In 2012, Rakestraw started working as development director for The Ministry of Caring, Inc., which is a group of staff, volunteers and donors who aim to serve the poor in Wilmington, Del. The organization provides meals, shelter, transitional housing, child care and education to help those facing poverty or homelessness in Wilmington.[1][5]
Political activity
Priscilla Rakestraw became the Republican Party national committeewoman for Delaware in 1976 and served in that position until 2012. As national committeewoman, she focused on campaign management, party building and candidate development for the Republican Party.[1]
Rakeshaw served as chair of the Delaware delegation to the 2008 Republican national convention. That same year, she also served as chair of the entertainment committee for the convention. In 2011, Reince Priebus, the chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), appointed Rakeshaw as the chair of the committee on the call. The committee on the call is responsible for issuing the call for upcoming party conventions. In addition, the committee helps the RNC determine the date and location of the convention, the delegate counts for each state and the rules for the proceedings of the convention.[1][6]
In 2013, Campaigns & Elections named Rakestraw a top Republican Party influencer in Delaware.[7]
