Rachel Stone
Rachel Stone was a candidate for the District 4 seat on the Midland Independent School District school board in Texas. Stone was defeated in the by-district general election on November 8, 2016.
Stone was a candidate for the District 4 seat in 2014. She was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014.
Biography
Stone serves as CEO of the Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She previously served on the Citizen Advisory Board for the MISD and with the Midland Independent School District Education Foundation.[1]
Elections
2016
Four seats on the Midland Independent School District board of trustees were up for by-district general election on November 8, 2016. The seats held by District 1 incumbent James Fuller, District 2 incumbent Angel Hernandez, District 4 incumbent Jeff Robnett, and District 7 incumbent Jay Isaacs were up for election. The only incumbent to file for re-election was Fuller. In District 1, Fuller defeated challenger Ernie Garcia. District 2 saw sole candidate Robert Marquez file for the open seat. Due to lack of opposition, the election was canceled and Marquez was appointed to the seat in September 2016.[2] Rachel Stone led John Kennedy for the District 4 seat after the initial count, but a recount determined that Kennedy won the seat by a single vote.[3] In District 7, Bryan Murry defeated Margy House for the seat.[4][5]

The November 4, 2014, general election in Midland Independent School District featured four seats up for election. District 3, 5 and 6 incumbents, Tommy Bishop, Karen Nicholson and Richard "Rick" Davis, respectively, ran unopposed. The District 4 race was for an unexpired term vacated by board member Karen Fullen. Three challengers, Kurtis Nodolf, Jeff Robnett and Rachel Stone, ran for that seat.

Funding
Candidates must file reports with the Texas Ethics Commission or the appropriate county clerk. They must disclose the amount of each contribution (or the value and nature of any in-kind contribution), the name and address of the individual or political committee making the contribution and the date of the contribution. Filers must also report all expenditures, including the date of an expenditure, the name and address of the person to whom the expenditure is made and the purpose of the expenditure.[6]
