My name is Raymond Alexander. I am running for the 12th district council seat. I am a former U.S. Marine, serving eight years and a former Lexington police officer, serving sixteen years. I served in patrol, the mounted unit, and the bomb squad. Due to an injury, I retired in 2017. During my police service I was awarded a medal of valor and a life-saving medal. I have been employed in the area of telecommunications for 33 years. I am married to Tracey and we have two grown children and one grandchild. We have lived in the 12th district for thirteen years and I am an at-large member of the Cumberland Hills Neighborhood Association. I’m in my second term as a state trustee of the FOP Bluegrass Lodge #4.
  • Public Safety - The police department, corrections, and E-911 needs to hire more qualified candidates to ensure public safety.
  • Government Spending - Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government needs to operate within its means and maintain a balanced budget without overspending.
  • Roadway Improvements and Sensible Growth- Improve roads and striping.
Public Safety is of utmost concern. 2021 was our highest homicide rate in L-FUCG’s history. To date, we are tied with last year’s total of homicides. This must be reduced. We must hire more qualified police officers, retain the ones we currently have, and get back to proactive and community policing. We also need to hire more qualified corrections officers and E-911 call-takers and dispatchers. Our public safety officers deserve the overwhelming support and backing from our city leaders. This will serve as a model for our community.

We also need to preserve our horse industry while promoting growth in our rural areas around I-64 and I-75 on the southeast part of Lexington. The citizens’ roads outside of our urban service areas are neglected and need updated improvements. Sensible growth and development in the right areas will generate more income from our taxpayers for the city to combat inflation and provide the public safety services that are so critically needed.

I have had family connections with the horse industry all my life and was a trainer during my time with the mounted police unit while at the Lexington Police Department. Paco and I received many awards for police equestrian events. My father drove for Nationwide Horse Carriers and worked the starting gates along with my uncle at Keeneland, Churchill, and Kentucky Downs. My aunt and family currently work in the Saddelbred industry. My uncle, (“Spec”), was the starter for Keeneland for over thirty years.
