Campaign themes

2014

Almanzor highlighted the following issues on his campaign website:

To address the challenges that stand in the way of our children’s success, I’m focused on building a beloved community. Specifically, I’m committed to the ABC’s of a thriving learning community:
  • A – Amazing Schools. We need to make sure that every third grader is reading at grade level, every sixth grader is using mathematical expressions and equations (or recognizes statistical variability – both from common core standards) and each and every graduate is prepared for college, career and community.
  • B – Building a beloved community together. While focusing on students, we need to ensure that teachers are supported to be effective and equitable, parents & families are welcomed and seen as partners, and that our school neighbors are invited and expected to contribute to creating a beloved community.
  • C – Civic and community engagement. I will champion civic and community engagement because it isn’t enough that we have a caring community, we must have a powerful community – one that deeply engages with our leaders at all levels, where we mutually hold each other accountable to the high expectations we should have for each other on behalf of our kids[5]
