Richard T. Ballinger
Richard T. Ballinger was a judge for the Eighteenth Judicial District in Kansas. He joined the court in 1992, when he succeeded his father, the late Judge Owen Ballinger. Ballinger served as the chief judge of the 18th District from 2001 to 2006. He was re-elected on November 6, 2012.[1] Ballinger passed away on January 23, 2015, due to complications from Lou Gehrig’s disease.[2]

Ballinger ran for re-election to the Eighteenth Judicial District on November 6, 2012, against challenger Zoe Newton.[3] Based on unofficial results, Ballinger was declared the winner after earning 51.72% of the vote, with 83,428 votes. Newton earned 48.18% of the vote, with the remaining going to write-in votes.[1] He ran in the election as a Democrat.[4]

Education
Ballinger received his undergraduate degree from Wichita State University in 1974 and his J.D. from the Washburn University School of Law in 1976.[5]
