When you grow up the son of a teacher, you see first hand the struggles and joys that come with the profession. Every student that came in and out of my mom's classroom was an extension of her family. She rejoiced when they succeeded, and was saddened when the came upon hard times. Not once did I see her give up on a student. Not once have I seen any teacher give up on a student. It takes a special breed of human being to put themselves out like that, and for that I am eternally grateful to my mother, Alma Alma Venecia, and every other educator out there. Although my career path took me in a different direction, I have always done my best to give back to the children of our community as my mother has. Through my years at the Boys and Girls Club of Mission, my years as a volunteer youth coach, and other organizations I've been a part of, my commitment to our community and the residents of our area has never faltered. I vowed to mom and family that I would one day make a difference. That day has come. The children and educators of the Mission CISD will soon have a new, unrelenting voice fighting for them on a daily basis! |
