I am a retired corporate executive and small business owner. I've lived in Williamson County with my wife Carleen, for over 20 years. We have two grown children, Anne who lives in Franklin, TN and Michael, who lives in Boulder, CO. I am also the proud grandfather of twin boys who attend Williamson County Schools. I graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Labor and Industrial Relations in 1973 and an MBA in Finance in 1975. I served my country in the Army Reserves from 1971 to 1977. I serve my community as a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army of Middle Tennessee, having served as past Chair and currently as Treasurer. I was born in Detroit, MI and grew up in Venezuela and Argentina. I speak fluent Spanish..
  • Public Schools are a foundational element of our democracy. They offer opportunity to all children regardless of socio-economic class, race, or gender to receive an education that prepares them to become productive citizens in a very complex world. A public school system allows children to change their birth circumstances and achieve their dreams, whatever they may be. We have been very fortunate to enjoy a high-quality of education in Williamson County public schools. I will endeavor to protect and preserve our excellent schools by advocating for adequate funding to support the needs of our children and teachers and to meet the unprecedented growth we are experiencing in our county.
  • Our teachers and support staff are trusted professionals who deserve our support and encouragement. They chose this career because they value educating and caring for children. We need to ensure that they are compensated adequately and are treated with the respect they deserve. As a School Board member, I will always champion our teachers and support staff. I believe they play a most critical role in the development of our children, both intellectually and socially. They are the education experts.
  • All our children deserve a learning environment where they feel valued, respected, and safe. Then and only then will they be able to maximize their potential. As a School Board member, I will ensure that policies are in place to protect our children, that our community’s diversity is reflected throughout the school system and our programs and curriculum are inclusive
I am very concerned about the efforts of a vocal minority in our community trying to force their values and beliefs on the school curriculum and books that are part of that curriculum. I believe they are creating artificial conflicts that are politically motivated. They stop us from solving the real issues such as adequate funding of public schools, teacher compensation and morale, teacher and staff shortages and infrastructure project delays. I believe that we need to make schools safe and welcoming to ALL students and that is accomplished by having a curriculum that values diversity and inclusiveness. That means including books in the curriculum by diverse authors and a curriculum that tells the truth about our shared history. Only then will we learn to not repeat the mistakes of our nation's past and we will become more empathetic and compassionate.
I look up to my wife, Carleen. She is kind, empathetic, funny and smart. She is always trying to improve herself and make life better for the people she loves. She is intellectually curious, emotionally intelligent and stands up for what she believes. I an very proud to be her husband.
I was living in Venezuela and President John F. Kennedy visited the country on a tour of South America. We went and watched his motorcade go by. I was 10 years old.
I joined Kimberly-Clark Corporation as a cost analyst in 1975. I had that job for two years until I was promoted tp Supervisor of the Cost Analyst Department. I worked for K-C for 26 years and my last position was President of Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
With the other Board members, sets the vision and goals for the school district and holds the district accountable for the results while acting as as a representative and advocate for the community, prioritizing the needs and interests of students and the public school system.
The children and the parents of the children in the Williamson County School System and the Public School System.
By listening to all stakeholders and working with the rest of the Board members and the school administration to determine how to best address those needs, always keeping in mind the best interests of all of the children in the public school system.
I would like to build relationships with my representatives in the State Legislature and the County Commission. I would also like to continue my relationships with organizations in the community that support public schools and promote and celebrate diversity and inclusivity. I'd also like to build positive supportive relationships with my fellow school board members.
Yes, I think our district's faculty, staff and administration should reflect the diversity of our community. I would set goals for each group and monitor performance against those goals. A strategic approach for recruiting diversity candidates should be developed. Recruiting should target social media and Universities with diverse populations.
The issues of politically motivated interest groups that are more concerned with inflicting their values and beliefs on the majority, than serving the best interests of the students and the public school system. To address this issue I would listen openly to group or individuals concerns and determine what was a real issue and what was a made up issue. I would then honestly and calmly confront the made up issues and focus on solving the real issues
I will maintain social media where parents can contact me and be updated on the activity of the board. I also plan to offer Zoom town hall meetings periodically where people can speak directly with me about their concerns. Finally, I will monitor my email accounts and respond promptly
