Salem and Leetonia School District Levy Measures, 2 (May 2010)
There were two Salem and Leetonia School District Levy Measures on the May 4 ballot in Columbiana County for voters in the school districts of Salem and Leetonia.
The Salem measure sought to renew the tax of $6.7 per $1,000 of assessed value of property in the city for a further five years in order to help with emergency services for the school district.
The Leetonia measure sought to add a tax of $8.8 per $1,000 of assessed value of property onto the current property tax in order to help avoid an operating expense deficit by the school district.[1] This was the seventh time school officials had asked residents to approve new taxes for the district, this tax was estimated to be able to generate around $578,000 a year. School officials hoped that by shortening the levy limit and taking suggestions from residents, this levy would be able to pass.[2]
