San Francisco Junior ROTC, Proposition V (November 2008)
A "Save the San Francisco Junior ROTC Initiative," Proposition V ballot question was on the November 4, 2008 ballot in San Francisco, where it was approved.[1].
On November 14, 2006, the San Francisco Board of Education passed a resolution to phase-out all Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) programs offered in the city's public schools by the end of the 2007-2008 school year. Later on, the school board scheduled the phase-out to be fully in effect by June 2009.
Proposition V made it the policy of the City of San Francisco to encourage the San Francisco Board of Education to reverse its action to terminate the JROTC program in the city's public high schools.[2]

Path to the ballot
Proposition V earned its spot on the ballot via the collection of signatures on initiative petitions. 7,168 signatures were required, which was 5% of the number of those who voted for the office of mayor in 2007.
