February 26, 2019: In 2019, a total of $130 billion is expected to be spent on digital advertising. That accounts for 54% of all advertising this year, and it marks an important transition in the communications industry. It’s the first time ever that digital advertising has attracted more money than traditional ad platforms.[1]
However, the trend is just getting started. Within five years, eMarketer projects that two-thirds of all ad spending will be devoted to digital platforms. Driving this trend, of course, is the fact that people are spending more and more time on digital devices.
As a result, print versions of newspapers and magazines are expected to see an 18% decline in revenue this year. TV ad spending will slip by just 2%.
Roughly 60% of all digital advertising revenue goes to Google and Facebook.
