January 3, 2018: Seven percent (7%) of American adults think it is very likely that their own job or profession will be eliminated by automation during their lifetime. According to the Pew Research Center, another 23% say it is somewhat likely.[1]
Seventy percent (70%) say it’s not very (40%) or not at all (30%) likely.
Most, however, think it’s at least somewhat likely that fast food workers, insurance processors, and software engineers will be replaced by automation.
Pew also reports that 6% believe they have already been impacted by technology through job loss or reduced hours/pay.
Pew listed this as one of the 17 most striking findings of 2017.[2]
