July 24, 2017: Through June 30, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents had seized 121,000 pounds of cocaine in fiscal year 2017. Even though there are still three months to go in the fiscal year, that’s a dramatic increase from 58,300 pounds seized in FY 2016 and 49,300 pounds seized in FY 2015.[1]
While seizures of cocaine are way up, the totals for marijuana remain stable. In fiscal year 2016, agents seized 1.81 million pounds of marijuana. Through the first nine months of fiscal year 2017, they seized 1.36 million pounds of pot. If that rate continues for the final three months, it will almost exactly duplicate the 2016 total.[2]
