March 24, 2021: Twenty-one states have sued President Biden for his rejection of the Keystone XL pipeline. They claim the president exceeded his authority by canceling the pipeline on his first day in office.[1]
The plaintiffs are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming.[1]
This comes shortly after 12 states sued Biden over an executive order raising the federal standard for the social cost of carbon. That standard impacts many decisions about federal regulations and permitting decisions. In that lawsuit, the states allege that the decision was arbitrary and capricious. They also claim it will have detrimental effects on the economy.[1]
