May 10, 2023: Fifty-two percent (52%) of voters favor a proposal that would prohibit anyone born after 2010 from ever purchasing tobacco, while allowing older people to continue to buy it. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 35% oppose the proposal.
The survey also found that 71% of voters favor prohibiting the sale of tobacco near schools, and 53% favor a proposal to phase out the sale of all tobacco products over a period of several years.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on April 26-25, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
