May 25, 2023: Fifty-four percent (54%) of voters say that the U.S. is currently in a recession. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 23% say the U.S. is not, and 23% are not sure.
The survey also found that, by a two-to-one margin (42% to 21%), voters say that their personal finances are getting worse, not better. Just 33% rate their personal finances as excellent or good, while 65% rate their personal finances as only fair or poor.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on May 10-15, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
