November 23, 2018: Black Friday remains the busiest shopping day of the year with 116 million Americans ready to spend.
But, in the 21st century, the whole holiday weekend is a shopping spree. The National Retail Federation (NRF) estimated that 34 million started on Thanksgiving Day itself, and 67 million are expected to shop on Small Business Saturday. While tens of millions will be traveling home on Sunday, 32 million will also find time to shop. The second-biggest shopping day will be Cyber Monday, when 75 million will spend while looking for bargains online.[1]
“Whether it’s heading to the stores after finishing their turkey or going online on Cyber Monday, consumers will be shopping all weekend and retailers will be ready to meet the demand,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Retail is a vibrant, dynamic and competitive industry, but one thing is certain – consumers are the winners no matter which day or which way they shop.”
The NRF data shows that 65% are shopping to “take advantage of deals and promotions retailers will offer.” Another 26% “cited the tradition of shopping over Thanksgiving weekend and 23% said it is something to do over the holiday weekend.”
