September 6, 2019: With all the focus on the 2020 presidential election, it’s easy to forget that a few states have significant elections scheduled for this November as well. A total of 538 state legislative seats have regularly scheduled elections this year in Louisiana, Mississippi, Virginia, and New Jersey.
Many of the races won’t be all that competitive. In fact, 158 Republicans will be running without a Democratic opponent, and 141 Democrats won’t face a Republican challenger.
As a result, just 239 of this year’s races (44.4%) will feature a candidate from both major parties.
Each weekday, Scott Rasmussen’s Number of the Day explores interesting and newsworthy topics at the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
