Sheila Alles
Sheila Alles is the former interim Michigan superintendent of public instruction. She was appointed on May 8, 2018, by the Michigan State Board of Education, and served until August 1, 2019, when a permanent superintendent was selected.[1] After she stepped down as interim superintendent, Alles began serving as chief deputy superintendent.[2]
Biography
Alles served as chief deputy superintendent of the Michigan Department of Education prior to her appointment as interim superintendent. She previously taught kindergarten through eighth grade, except first grade, in Plymouth-Canton Community Schools; worked as a curriculum coordinator and curriculum director; and served in several administrative positions in the Livonia Public Schools, including elementary principal, director of elementary instruction, director of academic services, and chief academic officer. She also worked as an adjunct professor of literacy.[1]

Interim Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction (2018 - 2019)
On May 8, 2018, Alles was appointed interim Michigan superintendent of public instruction by the state board of education.[1] She filled the vacancy created by the death of former officeholder Brian Whiston. Alles stepped down on August 1, 2019.
