Two South Carolina Term Limit Amendments will not appear on the November 2012 ballot in the state of South Carolina as legislatively referred constitutional amendments. The measure would have limit state legislators' terms to 16 years in office. According to reports, the measure was introduced by State Representative Bakari Sellers. One measure would ask if State Representatives' terms should be at most eight two-year terms, while the other would ask if State Senators' terms should be at most four four-year terms.[1]
Path to the ballot
Section 1 of Article XVI of the South Carolina Constitution says that a legislatively referred amendment can go on the ballot if approved by a 2/3rds vote of each house of the South Carolina State Legislature.
