Gurrapu is a business development and marketing manager for Texas Instruments. He has his bachelor's degree from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in India and two master's degrees: a marketing degree from the Cox School of Business and an electrical engineering degree from the University of Kansas. He and his wife have two children.[3]

The general election on May 9, 2015, in the Frisco Independent School District featured three seats up for election. Place 7 incumbent John Hoxie defeated two challengers, Carlos Gallardo and Rajesh Singh, to retain his seat. In the Place 6 race, incumbent John Classe, who previously represented Place 3, ran unopposed and won re-election to the board. Incumbent Chris Todd did not file for re-election in Place 6. There were three challengers for the one-year term in Place 3: Srikanth Gurrapu, Bryan Powell and Chad Rudy. Rudy won election to the board.

Why are you running for this office?

"Education is the most important thing in a person's life. Frisco ISD has grown both in size and quality in the recent years. Our kids have the potential and deserve to go the best school district in the nation. My vision for the school district is to make it the best in the state and in the nation and enable our children rise and shine on the world stage."

Why should voters choose you over your opponent?
"I bring a unique perspective - I respect the education, I bring passion to give the best to our children and I bring extensive math and science background to make our children rise and shine on the global stage! The leadership and professions experience I gained in the high-technology sector are directly applicable to lead the school board to be the best in the state and in the nation."

If elected, what two issues should be given the most attention and resources during your term in office?
"Establish a path to be the best in state and nation Enhanced triangulation (teachers, parents and community) for enhanced accountability resulting in enhanced learning Make math and science fun - for every kid!"

What schools in your community have been particularly effective in getting every child up to grade level in reading and math?
"FISD is very impressive today - many schools seen are doing pretty good. There's a huge potential for the district to be the best in the state and in the nation."

What is your assessment of your school district's efforts to close achievement gaps between white and minority students? What other ideas do you have for closing these gaps?
"I believe that enhanced interaction between teachers, parents and community will result in enhanced learning for kids."

As you look around the country, what innovative ideas would you recommend for improving classroom performance?
"Enhanced triangulation (student, teacher and parents) for enhanced accountability resulting in enhanced learning. Compete in several math and science competitions nationwide - and, compete well!"

Should teacher and principal pay be linked to school performance?
"Absolutely."

How would you assess your school district's efforts to improve its graduation rates and increase the number of students prepared for college? What further improvements would you advocate?
"This is a huge priority for me! My goal is for FISD to be the best example in not just generating the top students but also making sure every kid is prepared for college, every kid prepared to compete on the world stage."

How would you rate parental involvement in your school district and how would you seek to improve it?
"I strongly believe that enhanced triangulation (student,teacher and parents) results in enhanced accountability and that produces enhanced learning. The school district is going a good job today. My vision is about making something good better and something better the best!"

What is the most crucial issue facing this district that the school board and superintendent aren’t addressing, and how would you recommend this issue be addressed?
"Growth! How do we ensure, enhance quality while growing in size? How do we achieve the new heights and enable every kid compete on not just the national stage but on the world stage?"[4]
