Tricia Quintero has been a resident of Placentia for almost 25 years, drawn to the city knowing what a wonderful community this is for families. Tricia and her husband have raised their two kids here.

As a dedicated PYLUSD parent for more than 16 years, Tricia has served on Parent Teacher Association (PTA)/Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) boards, most recently as the 2023-24 PTA President at El Dorado High School. She has supported local youth sports programs, holding various positions, and volunteered on high school booster clubs. Tricia is a proud parent of 2 PYLUSD graduates.

As an elementary school teacher in a neighboring district, Tricia is also a local educator. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development from Cal State Fullerton and her Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning from National University. Her teaching career spans more than two decades.
  • Parental rights-As a teacher, parents are always welcome in the classroom, and parent involvement is encouraged. Parents have always had rights in our educational system. Legal documents, such as information in a student’s permanent files, are not allowed to be changed without parent permission. This law has never changed, even with the passing of AB 1955. I do believe that parents should be notified if their child is dealing with difficult issues. PYLUSD has a system in place to help parents and students. Resources can be provided with parent permission.
  • Charter Schools-Yes, I believe that all parents have the right to select what school fits their own students' needs. District-run charter schools can be an asset for PYLUSD and our enrollment. Our district currently offers quality programs that meet different students’ needs. Charter schools should complement our district, not take resources or funds from current programs.
  • Fiscal transparency-During my years serving in PTA and PTSA I have witnessed administrators become creative geniuses with limited budgets. I have helped fundraise for chrome books, field trips, assemblies and other classroom needs. With this in mind I will be fiscally responsible. I believe in transparent communication regarding district budget issues. I want to ensure tax payer funds are used appropriately.
Student Achievement, Diversity and Inclusion and school funding.
I would like to follow my father's example. He is the person I have always looked up to. My dad was a WWII Army Veteran, he contracted tuberculosis and spent many months in a VA hospital recovering. He then attended Fullerton College and received his Associates Degree. My dad was a hard worker and always provided for our family. He instilled his work ethic in myself and my siblings. My dad taught us how to be proud of who we are but to remain humble and to always help others. He overcame many obstacles growing up and as an adult but no matter what he persevered. I am proud to say that my father, Arcadio, was a part of what many historians call the "Greatest Generation" and knowing him and how he lived I now know why.
Important characteristics for elected officials are the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully as well as being a leader that is willing to work with others to build consensus.

I also believe that school board members should be nonpartisan. Personal political beliefs/ agendas should not be a part of decision making at the school board level.

The principle of representing everyone in our community is important. We are elected to serve the community as a whole.
I believe I would be a successful School Board Trustee because I am fair, respectful and I listen to others perspectives. I also have the ability to lead with a calm demeanor. I always try to work with others to build consensus. I posses unique qualities as a parent and a teacher. Being a teacher I have experience in the classroom. Engaging parents is important to me. I also know how to look at educational data and can research methods to improve achievement. As a parent I have been a school volunteer in the classroom, PTA/PTSA boards, and sports boosters. I know how to involve parents in school activities and the importance of fiscal responsibility.
September 11th is the first historical event that vividly remember. I was 25 years old. I still can recall details of the day from when I woke up and first heard the news to going to bed that night. It is a day that will stay with me and our country forever.
School board members create and uphold policies for the district, including school safety, curriculum and student conduct.

School boards also create and approve budgets that benefit district priorities.
Another important job is to advocate for students, parents and the community. We are the voice of our constitutes.

School boards also hire and evaluate the superintendent. They are responsible for holding the superintendent accountable.
Every student, parent and community member is a constituent.
I will have open dialogues with stakeholders. I will include parents, students, teachers, staff, community leaders and members of the community. I will attend school and community events to build relationships.
I would budget and fund more counselors and mental health professionals in all the schools. I would also like to implement social emotional curriculum at all levels.
I would also encourage staff development for teachers to help with students as well as their own mental health needs.
Association of Placentia Linda Educators (APLE), PYLUSD CSEA, Dr Linda Adamson, Dr Lloyd Porter
The ideal learning environment for students is calm, safe, respectful and accepting. Students should feel that their backgrounds and unique characteristics are respected and appreciated.

Learning environments should be free from political biases.

Class sizes should be manageable for the teacher. Teachers should be able to give individual attention to each student during their time together. Positive teacher/student relationships are essential to learning.
I have a unique perspective since I am a recent parent myself. I already have built relationships with parents from different school groups, athletics, arts, band, scouting, PTA/PTSA, and ASB. I can get to know more parents from the different district advisory boards, committees, and schools.
I will also attend meetings and events at each school site.
Financial transparency and accountability is important. School boards should be able to show tax payers how funds are being spent. Funds should be spent responsibly while benefitting the school community as a whole.
