Jefferson County School District is located in Jefferson County, Alabama. Jefferson County is home to 659,479 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[1] In the 2011-2012 school year, Jefferson County School District was the second-largest school district in Alabama and served 35,978 students.[2]

Demographics

Jefferson County outperformed in comparison to the rest of Alabama in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 29.3 percent of Jefferson County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 22.3 percent for Alabama as a whole. The median household income in Jefferson County was $45,415 compared to $43,160 for the state of Alabama. The poverty rate in Jefferson County was 17.0 percent compared to 18.1 percent for the entire state.[1]
