Joan Young was a judge for the 6th Circuit Court in Oakland County, Michigan. She was appointed to this position by Gov. Engler on March 10, 1997.[1] She served until January 1, 2017.[2][3]

Education

Young graduated from Michigan State University with a Spanish major and Psychology minor. She then received her law degree from Wayne State University in 1974.[1]

Career

Young began her career as a Deputy Court Administrator for the 6th Judicial Circuit. After four years, she became a Court Administrator. She held this position for seven years before becoming a Probate Court in January of 1989. She served there until March of 1997, spending the last three years as the Chief Judge of the Probate Court. She was also the Chief Judge of the 52nd Judicial District Court in 1996 and 1997. She was then appointed to the circuit court and was assigned to the Family Division. She was the Presiding Judge of that Division in January of 2009 and has served as the Presiding Judge of the Adult Treatment Court since 2002. She was Chief Judge Pro Tempore of the Circuit Court in 2000 and 2001 and Chief Circuit Judge from 2001 to 2003.[1][4]

2010 election

Young was re-elected (along with 4 other judges) in the general election on November 2, 2010. She received 19.24% of the vote.[2]
