Jim McGarity is a judge of the Collier County Court in Florida. He was elected to this position on Nov. 6, 2012 (effective the following January) for a term that expired on January 8, 2019.[1]
Education
McGarity received his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in 1976 and his J.D. degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1999.[2]
Career
McGarity was admitted to the Florida State Bar in 2001. He worked as an Assistant Public Defender from 2001 to 2006 and as a General Magistrate for the 20th Circuit from 2006 to 2012.[2]
Military service
McGarity is a retired Lieutenant Colonel of the U.S. Army after 24 years of service.[2]
2012 election
McGarity defeated incumbent Judge Eugene C. Turner in the general election on Nov. 6, 2012, receiving 55.2% of the vote. He previously received 46.5% of the vote in the primary on August 14, 2012.[1][3][4]
