Jerome Polaha was a judge on the Second Judicial District Court in Nevada. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Kenny Guinn on March 5, 1999, and took office on March 17, 1999.[1] He ran unopposed for re-election in 2014. Polaha retired at the end of his term on January 3, 2021.[2]

Polaha ran for re-election to the Second Judicial District Court. He was elected without opposition in the primary on June 10, 2014.[3] 

Education

Polaha studied Russian at Syracuse University and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada. He earned his J.D. from the National Law Center at George Washington University.[4]

Career

After working as an associate for the firm of Breen and Young in Reno, he was one of the first three lawyers who began the Washoe County Public Defender’s Office in July 1969. After leaving that post in 1972, he remained in private practice throughout his thirty year career as a lawyer, mostly as a sole practitioner, but also as a partner in several firms. He was then appointed to the district court in 1999.[4]
