Florida: The Judicial Qualifications Commission is investigating Paul Hawkes and Bradford Thomas, of the Florida First District Court of Appeal. They are being investigated for authorizing the new courthouse in the First District, nicknamed the "Taj Mahal" because of its cost and size.[1]
Representative Franklin Sands asked Speaker of the House Dean Cannon to create a committee to consider impeachment for the judges. Cannon decided to allow the proceedings of the commission to proceed before involving the legislative body. Since the creation of the Judicial Qualifications Commission (JQC) in 1967, the House has only impeached one judge.[1]
By law, the proceedings of the JQC are confidential until formal charges are filed against a judge.[1]
