Kathy McFetridge was the Zone 3 representative of the Springdale Public Schools Board of Directors in Arkansas. She won re-election in a general election on September 16, 2014. She was first elected to the position in 1991.[1]

While the board of directors is a nonpartisan political body, McFetridge ran as a Democratic candidate in the 2006 election for Arkansas House of Representatives District 93.

McFetridge became a co-owner of Ozark Film & Video Productions in 1983. Prior to that she worked as a pharmacy tech at Washington Regional Medical Center. She received an associate degree in accounting, business and management in 1971. She also attended the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota from 1972 to 1973.[2][3]

The general election in Springdale featured one seat, Zone 3, up for election on September 16, 2014. Henry Pudder Hudson challenged incumbent Kathy McFetridge. While board members are elected at-large, candidates run for office by ward or zone.[4]

No contributions or expenditures for McFetridge's campaign were reported as of September 10, 2014, according to the Arkansas Secretary of State.[5]

Endorsements

McFetridge was endorsed by NWA Online, which noted her "wealth of knowledge" and the important role it could play if the district has to hire a new superintendent.[6]

2009

McFetridge ran unopposed to retain the Zone 3 seat in the September 15, 2009, general election.[7]

In 2006, McFetridge was a Democratic candidate for Arkansas House of Representatives District 93. She lost to Jon Woods in the primary election.[8]

McFetridge was first elected to the Springdale Board of Education in 1991.[1]

2014

In an interview with NWA Online, McFetridge provided the following statements on campaign issues. She also stated her support for the district's pre-kindergarten program and commended the district's handling of its enrollment growth in recent years.[2]

School of Innovation

Research has shown that students learn in different ways so the district needs to be creative in offering non-traditional methods of learning. The School of Innovation is the first school of its kind in Arkansas.[9]

Race to the Top Grant

The Race to the Top Grant will allow the Springdale School District to achieve its goals much faster than first planned. Under this grant each child will have a personal computer to use.

The district expanded EAST Labs (environmental and spatial technology) to six more schools and was able to add 200 more pre-k spots across the district. Professional development for every teacher is being enhanced which allows the district to personalize student-learning plans to a higher level.[9]
