J. Blaine Akers is a judge for the Superior Court of Clay County in Indiana. He has served on the court since 1999, when he was appointed to replace retiring Clay Superior Court Judge John P. Stelle.[1][2] His term expired in 2018 and he has served as a Senior Judge since 2019.

Education

Akers received his Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Indiana State University. He received his J.D. from Indiana University's McKinney School of Law School in Indianapolis.[1]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Akers served as attorney for City of Brazil from 1984 to 1986, as Vigo County Deputy Prosecutor from 1984 to 1985, as Clay County Chief Deputy Prosecutor from 1986 to 1987, as a Public Defender from 1988 to 1999, and as Putnam County Chief Deputy Prosecutor from 1999 until assuming his current office[2]

2012 election

Akers ran for re-election against Republican candidate Robert Alex Pell in the 2012 election.[3] He was successful in his bid, receiving 51.3 percent of the vote.[4]
