John H. Emfinger is a judge for Position 2 of the Mississippi Court of Appeals District 3. He assumed office on March 3, 2021. His current term ends on January 5, 2031.

Emfinger ran for re-election for the Position 2 judge of the Mississippi Court of Appeals District 3. He won in the general election on November 8, 2022.

He was appointed by Gov. Tate Reeves (R) on March 3, 2021, to replace Cory Wilson. Emfinger was a judge for the Twentieth Judicial District of Mississippi. He was first elected to the position in 2010 and left office in 2021 when he was appointed to the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Education

Emfinger earned a B.S. in political science and a J.D. from Mississippi College.[1]

Career

Prior to his judicial election in 2010, Emfinger served for 14 years as an assistant district attorney in the Twentieth Circuit Court District. He also served as a special assistant attorney general and spent seven years in private practice.[1]

Emfinger defeated Craig Brasfield and John Shirley in the general election for the Twentieth Judicial District, winning 50% of the vote.[3][4]
