Montana Apportionment of the Legislature Amendment was on the ballot as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment in Montana on November 8, 1966. It was approved.
A "yes" vote supported requiring Montana’s legislative assembly to be apportioned based on population following each census made by the authority of the United States. At such time the US constitution is amended or interpreted to permit the apportionment of one house of a state legislative assembly on factors other than population, the senate of the legislative assembly will be apportioned based on one senator for each county. Senatorial and representative districts may be altered from time to time as public convenience may require. |

A two-thirds (66.67%) vote is required of all members of the legislature during one legislative session for the Montana State Legislature to place a constitutional amendment on the ballot. Since Montana has 150 legislators (100 Representatives and 50 Senators), at least 100 members must vote in favor of a constitutional amendment for it to pass. Amendments do not require the governor's signature to be referred to the ballot.
