Born in The Bronx, NY, lived in CT (1971-2002), moved to VA. Retired Chief Clerk, CT Supreme & Appellate Courts.

• Conservation is essential.
• Best Management Practices (BMPs), properly employed, can reduce erosion of soil and increase purity of water.
• Financial assistance is available through various local and state actors.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Conservation, generally.

What qualities does this office possess that makes it a unique and important part of the state government and legal system?

It is a statutory office which, like many government offices, has duties that might overlap those of others. In that sense it is not unique. What makes it unique, though, is the fact that it is an elected position but one "manned" by volunteers.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

John McCain, because in all things, he exhibited what is called moral courage, the ability to do what is needed despite the consequences to oneself.

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Integrity and leadership.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

To perform at their best ability and to set aside any notions of unfairness.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

JFK death in 1963. 17

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

File clerk, New York Life Insurance Company, when I was first eligible to work, likely when I was 15. It was a summer job between high school years.

Are there any little-known powers or responsibilities held by this office that you believe more people should be aware of?

The powers and responsibilities of this office (one of 4 elected and 2 appointed Directors) is circumscribed by statute.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for holders of this office to have previous experience in government or politics?

No.

What kind of skills or expertise do you believe would be the most helpful for the holders of this office to possess?

Education and training is conservation, environmental science, horticulture, and like subjects.
