Michael Gaudet

Michael Gaudet (Republican Party) is a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish School System in Louisiana, representing District 7. He assumed office in 2017. His current term ends on January 1, 2027.

Gaudet (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to represent District 7 in Louisiana. He won in the general election on December 10, 2022.

Gaudet was appointed to the position in January 2017 after his predecessor, Barbara Freiberg, resigned.[1]

Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. One of nine seats on the East Baton Rouge Parish School System school board in Louisiana was up for by-district special election. The primary election was scheduled for October 14, 2017, after former District 7 representative Barbara Freiberg resigned from her position on the board.[2][3] Appointed board member Michael Gaudet defeated challengers Brian Adams and Belinda Davis in the race for the District 7 seat.[4]

East Baton Rouge Parish School System is located in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. In 2013, East Baton Rouge Parish was home to approximately 445,227 residents, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau. In the 2011-2012 school year, East Baton Rouge Parish School System was the second-largest school district in Louisiana and served 42,854 students.[5]

East Baton Rouge Parish overperformed in comparison to the rest of Louisiana in terms of education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 33.7 percent of East Baton Rouge Parish residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 21.3 percent for Louisiana as a whole. The median household income for East Baton Rouge Parish was $48,274 compared to $44,673 for the state of Louisiana. The percentage of people below [the] poverty level for East Baton Rouge Parish was 18.5 percent while it was 18.7 percent statewide.[5]
