Karen Smith (New York)

Karen S. Smith is a former acting justice for the New York County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 1st Judicial District of New York. She was appointed to the court in 2004. She also served on the New York City Civil Court prior to her retirement in 2010.[1][2][3][4]

Education

Smith received her B.A. degree from Reed College in 1970 and her J.D. degree from the Catholic University Law School in 1975.[1]

Career

Smith began her career in 1976 as Associate General Counsel to District Council 37 AFSCME. In 1984, she joined the Real Estate Bureau-Enforcement of the New York State Attorney General's office. She was elected to the New York City Civil Court in 1996 and was appointed an Acting Supreme Court Justice in 2004.[1]
