Avery Vise was a 2014 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 6th Congressional District of Alabama.[1] Vise withdrew from the race on August 6, 2014, stating that new business opportunities would make it impossible for him to devote enough time to the race.[2]

Vise also made the following statement about gerrymandering in Alabama in his withdrawal letter. Alabama is a conservative state, but gerrymandering has manipulated the boundaries of legislative districts to eliminate any semblance of competition. Such lopsided districts discourage candidate recruiting, voter engagement, competitive elections and responsive elected representatives."[2]

Biography

Vise earned a bachelor's degree in government and history from Georgetown University. He is the owner of TransAdvise, a market research and marketing consulting firm specializing in trucking, transportation and logistics.[3]
